Instructions for submitting photos in digital format.

Your photos must be scanned in and saved to your computer.  Photos taken with a digital camera must also be saved to your computer.

Using a graphics program, (I use Corel), edit your photo to an approximate size of 400x400 pixels.  (This may vary as you will want to retain what is known as aspect ratio, or the height and width of the original photo reduced in size accordingly.)

Ensure that your photo is saved in either .jpg, or .jpeg format, i.e. photoname.jpg.   This ensures a small file size and will transfer easily.

Your E-mail program must support the ability to send images either as an attachment or an insertion into your letter.  I use Outlook Express and am following its guidelines.  Upon completion of your letter, ensure that your curser is placed in the body of the letter, (usually after the text).

Go to the toolbar in your E-mail program and click on <Insert>.

A flyout menu will appear with several options in it to include <Picture> or <File Attachment>.

When sending images to me, select  <Picture>, if you do have that option.  A window should appear, which is where you will locate and insert the complete path to the image that you wish to send.  A note…ensure that you remember where you saved your image.   Then click on <OK>.

In Outlook Express, if you select <Picture>, the recipient of your mail will actually view the picture in the body of the E-mail if the mail program allows it.  I am not too sure about AOL.  You can opt to select <File Attachment>, however the recipient will have to open the attachment to view the picture.  Keep in mind that some computers have a virus protection program that will not permit the opening of attachments.  Mine does have this type of virus protection therefore be sure to select <Picture>.  If you do not have that option in your program, send it as an attachment and I will try to retrieve it.

Another tip, you might want to test your completed E-mail by simply sending it back to yourself.  This way you will have an idea of what damage J you have done and whether or not you need to go back to the drawing board.

Hope this helps.  Don’t hesitate to E-mail me with any problems.  I will be glad to help.
